Dear zindagi - have a piece of chocolate cake :)

Ok, so today's post comes as an after effect of watching Dear zindagi...Do I like it? Well, I have mixed feelings...The movie was great but it left me a lil heavy at heart...so much so that we had to dig into 2 chocolate brownie overloads and a hot chocolate (at the Costa just after the movie) to uplift our spirits!

The moment I had seen the trailer, I was determined to watch it in the theatre - it looked to give an opportunity to delve in to some deep thoughts, some profound discussions, some breezy light moments and some beautiful portrayals! So, did it match my expectations...yes it did to quite an extent. A few scenes could have been better but holistically it did make a lot of sense.

Loved Alia and Shahrukh, Alia was flawless and Shahrukh was charming! Wept for a whole 10 minutes in one of the scenes, a record for me! The movie takes you to the life of a 6 year old Kaira and how her unhappy childhood shapes her entire life's decisions and course! It made me sit upright and introspect on how I must bring up my daughter and how parents' life decisions and attitude can so deeply affect children's emotional health! Something that might look very trivial to us can be the basis of their whole life! So, one needs to be very cautious!

The movie portrayed that the shadow of the past can imprison us and the way out is to let out/ vent out the emotions and embrace yourself....And if you get the help of handsome and charming shrink like Shahrukh Khan in the whole process, its icing on the cake ;)

Its a good movie, go watch it! It will touch a chord..

You too might need chocolate cake to feel bright and upright after the movie, so here is the recipe.

Chocolate walnut prune cake

Ingredients:

2 eggs
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup oil
2 tbsp cocoa
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup maida (All purpose flour)

6-7 chopped walnuts
3-4 chopped prunes

Method:

1. Beat the eggs, add sugar and mix well
2. Add oil, beat everything together, preferably with a hand mixer
3. Sieve maida, baking powder and coca together and add to the above mixture, fold well. Add walnuts and prunes (preferably dust them with flour beforehand) and mix well.
4. Brush the microwave safe vessel with oil and dust with flour, now pour the batter

4. If you want your cake quick in 5 min, bake it for 4 and 1/2 min at high power in the microwave - the cake is ready!
5. If you have time - preheat OTG/ microwave in convention mode at 180 degrees, then bake it for 15-20 min at 180 degrees.

Let it cool a lil...then Dig in and revel in the depth of Dear Zindagi and feed it a piece of chocolate cake! :)
